Q&A with Livan, NWEDA student

We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Livan, a current student at Seattle Central and an NWEdA Alumni & Student Advisory Board (ASAB)* member.

Tell me about your educational journey.
I come from an unconventional background. I have worked as a service assistance operator and logistic operator in Italy and France. While in France, I began studying software development, as I have always wanted to work in IT but never had the opportunity before. Since May 2023, I have been working part-time at a hostel where I currently live, while pursuing an associate degree in Software Development at Seattle Central College. I hope to complete my degree by this summer.

Tell me about your experience working with your Education Advocate.
My advocate was instrumental in my enrollment at Seattle Central College. He provided me with numerous resources to help me access classes and seek financial assistance. Hansell assisted me in selecting my initial classes to ensure a smooth start to my educational journey and helped me navigate the registration and financial aid offices for any questions I had. Thanks to him and Northwest Education Access, I feel much closer to achieving my career goals.

What are you proud of the most about your educational achievements?
I am proud to be in the middle of my educational journey at Seattle Central College and to be taking the opportunity to learn new skills in communication and foreign languages, such as Spanish.

What are some of your goals for the future?
My goal is to establish myself here in Seattle and to visit more of the rest of the country.

What’s sparking joy for you right now?
I feel immense joy when meeting people from diverse backgrounds. Overall, being in Seattle also brings me happiness.
